Wendy van Poorten

Wendy is the editor-in-chief of the magazine &C in all its impressive, witty, elegant, illuminating, stylish, funny, bold and cutting-edge glory. You know the one, Chantal Janzen’s publication. Wendy runs the magazine in a way only she could and that’s the kind of thing we like to hear. She’s down to earth, doesn’t do hassle but nevertheless knows exactly how to keep on-target when it comes to her goal: putting a strong, distinctive and profitable magazine on the market. Month after month. And to do that in 2020? Well, that’s definitely an achievement worth applauding.

Occupation
Editor-in-chief of &C.

Speaking at The Self-Made Summit about
The ability to focus on growth when it comes to your own career, without being distracted by what everyone around you is doing or thinks about it. Wendy is going to chat to you about social contradictions in this day and age:

“Fuck that. Your life is about you. Take a look at your own capabilities and see what YOU can achieve. What are you good at? What makes you happy? Focus on your own development and what is important in making that happen. Just because something works for someone else, doesn’t mean you automatically need to do it too. Other people's careers often look better from a distance. Problems? Oh they’re definitely there, even if you can’t see them. So as corny as it sounds, stay true to yourself. Focus on your talents. On what you do have. Get better. Keep going. Push harder. Make the most of your life. But remember that making the most of your life is much more difficult when you’re constantly scanning your surroundings to consider how the grass just seems to be greener for other people. Not only is that time-consuming, it guarantees an unwelcome pain in the neck.”

That sounds like a pretty good ‘fuck it, keep both of your feet on the ground’ talk to make you even more excited about everything you already can and do, right? Self-confidence galore! Are you ready?

We know her from
Wendy studied Media and Journalism at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. After graduating, she went on to work at Jackie Magazine as a final editor. Two incredible years later, Wendy decided it was time for a change and took her editing skills along with her to Cosmopolitan.

Following five years of employment, it was time to jump in at the deep end: Wendy started working for herself. And with great success at that. She wrote articles for an impressive list of publications: from LINDA to Esquire, to Grazia, Happy and Viva.

2018 saw the chance of a lifetime cross her path: &C Magazine was looking for a new editor-in-chief. A job that had Wendy’s name written all over it. One that she has taken on with tremendous enthusiasm and success for more than two years running.
